Prompt #12

Alexa play "Needy" by Ariana Grande

This prompt is about priorities and how differing priorities in a scene or interaction can cause conflict! It’s based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. I have a chart below, but if you want a more in-depth primer, click here.

This prompt was inspired by an anecdote a friend told me about her sister, who is in school to become a psychologist! Thank you friend and friend’s sister! She asserted that in the pyramid that represents the hierarchy of needs, people don’t necessarily need each thing in the order it’s listed on the pyramid. Some may need safety before they can prioritize food. Some may need esteem or importance before financial needs and employment needs really start to click. Everyone’s needs are different, and sometimes that can cause conflict, which we love!

Write an exchange between two characters in which there is a problem getting their needs met. Each character must prioritize something on the below pyramid above the opposite character’s need. How do they resolve the problem?

Remember to block off at least 10 minutes for this, but you can do more. Start your timers, and write!

I’m reading You Were Born For This by Chani Nicholas.

I’m watching Doctor Slump, and my favorite episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

I’m listening to Vanguard on Spotify, and another Sounds Like A Cult episode on The Cult of KPop because they like to attack me.

This prompt was a challenge for me! Let me know how it went for you in the comments!

Until next week~
