Prompt #26

Horror comedy is back

I am curious how I can support you all in your writing journeys this summer. I’m all-in for Summer Bucket Lists and trying to get personal projects done while the weather is nice and the serotonin is high. What are y’all working on? Is there anything this little newsletter corner can do to support you this summer? Email me back or comment and let me know! Okay, now let’s bend some genres, y’all.

In prose or dramatic form, write an outline of a short scene or story in a genre you’re comfortable with, for a few minutes. Don’t get bogged down by details, just sketch out a skeleton of a story in whatever genre you vibe with.

Then, transpose that story into the genre you would consider to be the opposite of the one you chose. Comedy may become a horror. The drama may become a farce. Afrofuturism may become a historical period piece. Open your mind to the possibilities and play in a new sandbox for once!

Grab a beveragino, put 10 minutes on the clock, and write!!

I’m watching Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 (4 episodes is a very annoying number). I devoured it in an insomnia haze, and now I have nothing to live for.

I’m reading Black Liturgies by Cole Arthur Riley which also has a lovely companion Instagram account!

I’m listening to silence! I gave my ears a rest this week because I realized I was incapable of sitting in silence and decided to practice. I highly recommend it.

How did the prompt go? Let me know in the comments! See ya next week :)
