Prompt #35

Like every other “comedy writer” in New York, I suffered through Improv 101. A few Improv games make great foundations for writing exercises. Today’s prompt is an example! It’s a great warmup if you want some freewriting to get into a creative mindset or if you want to play around with genres.

Pick a nursery rhyme or fairy tale you’re very familiar with. Begin writing the story as it usually occurs and then change one central plot point. Continue the story as you’d write it from that point on! It’s Sliding Doors, fairy tale edition. So maybe, if I chose Humpty Dumpty, instead of having a great fall, he gets hit by a ball or is 30 feet tall, etc. Just change one pivotal moment and run with it!
