Prompt #8
What's her deal?

A fun exercise we may do from time to time is “Stock Photo Roulette.” I came across this unhinged photo of someone biting a book when I searched the image “Holiday Dinner,” so today’s prompt is about making unbelievable behavior believable and even justifiable in the eyes of our characters.

Very simple. Tell me about “The Girl Who Bites Books.” What’s her deal? Create the circumstances where this image could naturally occur. The reader of your work should come away with an understanding of why this is happening. They don’t necessarily need to be like, “You’re eating books? Ok, go off!” but they should understand, at least. This can be in the medium of your choice: poem, prose, scene, monologue, comic, or anything.
Set your timer for 10 minutes and write!

I’m watching Everybody Loves Somebody, a rom-com starring Karla Souza, who should star in at least 30 more Rom-coms in my opinion.
I’m reading by my dear friend ! David was the role model that led me to Substack, and reading his newsletter is like gabbing with your funniest friend over coffee. For anyone looking for a parasocial best friend, this is the perfect sub. And he didn’t ask me to feature this, so I hope he’s blushing :)
I’m listening to this episode of Bandsplain.

How did it go? Let me know in the comments. I would love to know what kind of prompts you’d be interested in seeing. Any craft topics in particular you’re looking to improve on? Or maybe if you’re in this just for fun, what types of prompts you’ve enjoyed so far. Excited to plan the next few weeks of writing! Ok, same time next week! Have a good weekend :)
